Haunted Weekend On Mackinac Island

As I sit here, with a pile of laundry calling my name, Halloween decorations that still need to be put up and my dogs deciding its WWE time at my feet, I think back to a couple of weeks ago when I was enjoying myself at a Strange Escapes event on Mackinac Island. It was the perfect setting to jump start my October festivities. The leaves were changing, there was a chill in the air and many establishments on the island provided spirits, of the other kind, to drink next to a roaring fire.

Strange Escapes was founded 4 years ago by Amy Bruni of Kindred Spirits and Ghost Hunters fame. And, if you haven’t had a chance to attend one of her events, I highly recommend it….you will not be disappointed. Her boutique-type events are held all over the country so you can have your pick for which destination strikes your fancy. Anywhere from Hawaii to Mount Washington Resort in New Hampshire.

What I love about her events is the fact she pays attention to the smallest details. I don’t think I’ve ever been to another paranormal event where there is a fruit and cheese table during the “meet and greet”. I mean, c’mon, this is a dream come true for this girl! I also love seeing the sweet, familiar faces that frequent her events....it's like a mini family reunion. I think Strange Escapes stands out because it's more intimate than the average paranormal event which is fabulous because you have a chance to meet others with similar beliefs and you also get to know the “guest celebrities”/lecturers a little bit more because they are so approachable throughout the weekend.

My amazing weekend included a Halloween Ball and fantastic, informative lectures by John Tenney, Greg Larson , Dana and Greg Newkirk, Brad Blair and Tim Ellis (UPPRS and MiParacon ) and Amy Bruni and Adam Berry (Kindred Spirits and Ghost Hunters). I also had the chance to join in on a ghost walk with Haunts of Mackinac and ate a delicious BBQ dinner hosted by the Grand Hotel (ooohhhh, so fancy). And last but definitely not least, we investigated the haunted Mission Point Resort . It was great to see that quite a few guests had some type of paranormal experience during their stay from EVPs to a full body apparition of a well known ghost that is known to haunt the grounds.

I know I’m leaving out some things but that’s okay, I’m sure this won’t be the last time I write about a Strange Escapes Event.

All the best,
