The Original Grant House Hotel (Before The Fire)

Present Day Grant House Hotel
I recently organized a paranormal investigation at the Grant House Hotel in Rush City, Minnesota with ten girls and I must admit we were not disappointed.
We heard furniture moving around, laughter and voices when no one was around, the sound of someone running up and down the hallway and stairs, a figure being seen in a mirror’s refection, new batteries dying in several pieces of equipment and other creepy encounters with the unknown.
We also had a chance to try out some new equipment, the ES, EM Vortex, Ovilus X and night vision goggles which was awesome! I also want to give a big shout out to Mr. Bill Chappell with Digital Dousing who created a lot of the equipment we used that night.
A little background for you of the place we investigated. The hotel was originally built in 1880 by Colonel Russell Grant, a cousin to Ulysses S. Grant. In 1895, a fire broke out and burned the beautiful building down to the ground.
In 1896, the hotel rose from the ashes and opened up their doors once again. Being the half way point between the Twin Cities and Duluth, this hotel greeted travelers, businessmen and politicians.
Back then, this was the place to be and to be seen.
However, behind this magnificent facade, there was a dark underbelly. There are rumors this hotel hosted illegal gambling, bootlegged liquor and prostitution. And some say, that the ghosts from this wicked past, still haunt the hotel to this day.
Todd Johnston now owns the The Grant House Hotel and he and his daughter, Hannah, were the ultimate hosts. They were very accommodating and kudos to Hannah for staying up with us until the wee hours of the morning, investigating, only to be back a few hours later to serve the breakfast crowd. And what a delicious breakfast it was! I can not wait until the next time I get a chance to go back.
