Her first paranormal experience happened when she was 16.  She visited an old house that was rumored to be haunted.  When she looked up to the 2nd floor window, she saw the owner sitting there. The only problem was he was the prior homeowner who had died from the flu.

That experience sparked something within which made her want to learn more about the paranormal and investigate.

She is the founder of a paranormal investigative group called Haunted Florida (Paranormal Investigators of Central Florida).  Not only has she investigated the whole state of Florida, she has investigated haunted locations on both coasts and everywhere in between.

She is the author of “Haunted Florida: A Guide to the Departed Soul, Vol. One”.  Kimberly wrote the book because she wanted to make people aware just how haunted Florida was and she wanted her readers to “feel as though they were right there with me, with every haunted step she took.”

You can now find my very busy friend, writing and editing “Beyond The Limits” Magazine and broadcasting their new blogtalkradio show called “BLTmagazine.”  They interview t.v. paranormal celebrities, talk about haunted places, UFOs, vampires, creatures and urban legends.

You definitely need to check her out.  She is an amazing person and a great friend.

Who doesn’t like to look at photographs?

Pictures of special moments frozen in time.  It’s amazing how one photograph can bring back memories so strong, you feel like it just happened yesterday.

Or, one photograph can capture your attention and you begin to think about the people in the photograph, what were they like, what was going through their minds when the photo was taken, what was it like living back then…..

My friend, “Senator Longjohns”, buys photo lots off of ebay for his photo comic website, www.ofsphere.com.

One shipment came from Kentucky, and the other day, as I was looking through the old photographs, I came across a few that were a little out of the ordinary.

What a beautiful, sunny day, sitting on the front lawn.  But who is that on the front porch?  Is that Meemaw?  Maybe it’s my imagination, but does she look proportionate to the house?

Here’s a photo of a girl in the spirit of Halloween.  But check out the transparent image of a soldier wearing his helmet…..I’m thinking WWII.

P.S.  “Senator Longjohns” said he is expecting another shipment of photos here shortly.  Fingers crossed that I’ll discover more strange and possibly paranormal photographs.  If so, I’ll definitely post them in the near future.

“This scenic Mississippi River site provided Native American food, shelter, and transportation for over 9000 years. Count Frontenac, the Governor of New France, sponsored the first European explorers to this area in 1680.

James (Bully)Wells established a fur trading post in 1840. In 1854, Evert Westervelt opened the first store in “Western Landing”. Isreal and Lewis Garrand brought resources and craftsmen to build an aristocratic frontier city and in 1857 platted the town Westervelt.

The village was renamed Frontenac in 1859 and prospered in fur trading, logging, limestone and hospitality.”

Rather than blog about the history of the building  www.easternstate.org or the reports of ghost sightings, I thought it would be fun to write about Pep.

Now, you may ask yourself, what or who is Pep? Well, I’m getting to that.

I found out about Pep as I stood there with my soda in one hand and a souvenir t-shirt in the other, looking for a few books to bring back home, late one night in the gift shop at Eastern State. As I browsed around, I came to a selection of coffee cups with a dog’s photo on them.

I asked the poor soul, waiting patiently for me behind the counter to buy my items, what was the story behind the dog.

He told me that Pep was sentenced to Eastern State Penitentiary. Say what?

Eighty six years ago, on August 12, 1924, this adorable but guilty looking Labrador Retriever was assigned Inmate Number C2559.

His crime? Allegedly, he killed Governor Gifford Pinchot’s wife’s beloved cat (whew, that is a mouthful) and was sentenced to life in prison.

However, the Governor’s version differed. He claimed that Pep was sent to Eastern State to keep the inmates company and to be the prison’s mascot. Nice recover Mr. PR.

Whatever the reasoning, how can you not love this cat murdering dog’s mug shot?!

Supposedly, Pep’s ghost haunts the prison grounds. There have been reports of people hearing a dog howl and the sound of dog tags jingling.

Below are two videos of what can happen during an investigation that most paranormal investigators don’t want you to know.  The first is what happens when you are slap happy because you have had no sleep for the past 48 hours and the second is what happens when an investigator gets scares.

My mom and I were visiting my grandparents who live only 20 minutes away from this historic site.

Well, make that 45 minutes because I was driving and the two of us have no sense of direction.

I couldn’t believe how massive this place was and the sense of sorrow that I felt.

Thousands of people, many of them entire families, passed through the front doors, hoping for a cure, only to lose loved ones to Tuberculosis a.k.a “TB”, “The White Plague” and “Consumption”.

TB disease is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.TB is spread through the air from one person to another. The TB bacteria are put into the air when a person with active TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. People nearby may breathe in these bacteria and become infected.  Symptoms range from loss of appetite, weakness, chills and fever to pain in the chest and coughing up blood.

Before the introduction of antibiotics, some of the treatments for tuberculosis were a healthy diet, fresh air, seaweed placed under the pillow, salt baths and artificial pneumothorax.

Artificial pneumothorax was a rather painful procedure.  The lung was artificially collapsed and then inflated again.

The belief was this procedure gave the infected lung a rest. And unfortunately, on many occasions, the ribs were removed as well to relieve pressure.  So needless to say, most of the patients were in pain.

A little bit of history for you regarding Waverly Hills per their website, http://www.therealwaverlyhills.com/,

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium began with a two-story frame building, with a hipped roof and half timbering. Construction on this building began in 1908, and it opened on July 26, 1910. This building was only designed to safely accommodate 40-50 tuberculosis patients. Tuberculosis was a very serious disease back before antibiotics were discovered. People who were afflicted with tuberculosis had to be isolated from the general public and placed in an area where they could rest, stay calm, and have plenty of fresh air. Sanatoriums were built on high hills surrounded by peaceful woods to create a serene atmosphere to help the patients recover.

Tuberculosis was reaching epidemic proportions among the public in Pleasure Ridge Park, Kentucky. The little TB clinic was being filled with over 140 people, and it was becoming very obvious that a much larger hospital would have to be built.

The massive collegiate gothic style sanatorium still stands on Waverly Hill today. This sanatorium could accommodate at least 400 patients. It was considered to be one of the most modern and well equipped facilities when it opened. Construction of this sanatorium began in March of 1924. It opened on October 17, 1926 to administer patients. Waverly functioned as a tuberculosis hospital until 1961. After antibiotics were invented, it was closed down to be quarantined and renovated to be opened again in 1962 as WoodHaven Medical Services. The facility remained a geriatrics center until 1980, when it was closed by the state.

A couple of  months ago, I made the trek again to Waverly for an event hosted by Darkness Radio and Ghost Adventures Crew, and I was not disappointed.

Susan and I made some mini videos throughout the two nights of investigations and I will say that we got some great E.V.P.s in the death tunnel that gave me chills.

Hopefully, one day I will figure out how to post my audio findings to my website.  But hey, let’s be honest, I’m just happy that I figured out how to work my camera!
