Vampires, Something to Sink Your Teeth Into
For the past few days, I have been experiencing vertigo. I do not wish this upon my worst enemy.
Wait, let me think about that one for a second. Hmmmm….nah, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.
Since I am such a hypochondriac, I began my google search to see what exotic disease I have acquired.
Never mind, I live in a state that is known as the “frozen tundra” and most diseases would not survive the frigid cold…but that’s besides the point.
As I read through the list, an unexpected but pleasant result appeared. It read “Stephen King and Scott Snyder Bring ‘American Vampire’ to Vertigo”!
Did I read that right? Stephen King, vampires and comic books all in the same sentence? Glorious! Memories of “Salem’s Lot” come rushing back. The fear I felt when I first saw Danny, floating out of the fog, and scratching at the window. Creepy!
The Vertigo Comics series, “American Vampire”, is about the origin of the famous fanged monster on American shores. It’s based on a short story by Scott Snyder and drawn by artist Rafael Albuquerque.
“The series explores both the genealogical evolution of vampires, and the vampirism of the American character throughout history.
The first five issues of “American Vampire” will be split into two story cycles, with King tackling the Old West origin story of the first American vampire, Skinner Sweet, and then Snyder exploring the story of Pearl, a struggling actress that Skinner turns into a vampire in the 1920s.”
“Getting the chance to re-imagine a classic monster-to invent a whole new mythology and secret history-nothing could be more exciting for me . . . except getting the chance to do it with Stephen King at Vertigo.
I honestly can’t think of any influences more crucial or enduring for me than Vertigo and Stephen King. To have them both involved in AMERICAN VAMPIRE, along with the amazing Rafael Albuquerque-this all a dream come true for me!” -Scott Snyder
“I love vampire stories, and the idea of following the dark exploits of a uniquely American vampire really lit up my imagination. The chance to do the origin story-to be “present at the creation” -was a thrill. I owe big thanks to Scott Snyder for letting me share his vision, and sip from his bucket of blood.” -Stephen King
“In a time where vampires are everywhere, Scott and Stephen seem to have done the impossible: An original, inventive and detailed new series. It’s a challenging and exciting project I’m proud to be working on.” -Rafael Albuquerque
“Publishing a series with a fresh take on the vampire myths would be incredible enough, but adding the talents of Scott Snyder, an exciting new voice in fiction, and Stephen King, the master of horror himself, is beyond awesome.
We are thrilled that Vertigo is the home for this special new work, which we’re certain will be a major addition to the timeless and popular appeal of vampire lore everywhere.” -Karen Berger
This is the first time I have been excited for a comic series to come out. I can not wait for this new breed of vampire!
I love things that sparkle, but for once, I’m glad this vampire does not.
With much paranormal love,
